Rockstar seems to be busy today. First was confirmation that development is well underway on the next GTA game. This we assume is the long-awaited GTA 6 but nothing has been confirmed in regards to the title. Now we have some news on the currently planned upgrade for GTA V for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
This upgrade was originally planned as a November 11th launch which meant competing against Skyrim Anniversary Edition. The trailer for the upgrade was not well received at the time and the date changed to March this year. Until now we had no further news.
Rockstar posted information about the GTA V upgrade on their website earlier and this is what they said:
With the GTAV community stronger than ever, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online will come to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms this coming March 15, bringing the blockbuster open-world experience to players on the latest hardware. We sincerely appreciate the entire community’s support over the years as the game now heads into an unprecedented third console generation.
What is expected with this upgrade
Rockstar has said we will see new graphics modes which will offer a resolution up to 4K as well as up to 60 frames per second. Textures and the draw distance have been upgraded as well. The upgraded version will offer options to support HDR and Ray-tracing. The new consoles thanks to the SSD will provide faster loading times. Also supported is immersive 3D audio. For those on the PlayStation 5, advanced haptic feedback is also supported.
If you have progress on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you’re catered for. You will get a chance to continue your game via a one-time migration. This could be similar to the migration used on the launch for last-gen versions.
A standalone version of GTA Online for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S will be available at launch. For players on PlayStation 5, it’s free for the first three months. No mention as yet as to the cost of the upgrade or any upgrade paths so hopefully that information arrives soon. Also, a trailer to showcase the changes would be welcome. Especially after the original trailer’s negative reaction.
The changes with GTA Online
Players can now skip the prologue for the main campaign and jump into GTA online. This also has a new tutorial as well as a career builder and access to one of the businesses such as gun-running.
The future of GTA
Fans have asked consistently about a GTA 6. Now we have something definite. As the statement says
With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready”
