This backlog journey has taken a dark turn and I am enjoying it. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, is the seventh installment to the Resident Evil franchise and the bringer of nightmares. This game added a new twist by skipping the 3rd person over the shoulder gameplay and going first person so that the evil could feel up close and personal. Firstly, I know I am extremely late to this murder house party. But, I made it nonetheless. Secondly, this was only the second Resident Evil game I’ve completed. Why you ask? Because I am a scaredy-cat.
Ethan is a dummy, a love struck dummy. Call me cold, but I don’t think I could have went on a swamp adventure looking for my wife that ghosted me for three years. Also, once I get to the clearly creepy and haunted looking swamp mansion and find her purse and ID in a fire pit, my spider senses would have told me to call and wait for large amounts of law enforcement. Not Ethan though, this guy had to go investigate like its an episode of Scooby Doo. Now a megaton bomb worth of crap goes down as soon as you enter the murder house. You know you’re run of the mill government conspiracy, bioweapon taking human form, infecting the masses, and a simple person has to save the day type of stuff goes down.
Now, I live-streamed my entire playthrough on Twitch. It took me around 8 hours to complete the game and the entire time I was sweating and nervous. The first-person perspective mixed with the lighting and infected serial killer family. Really created a stressful “je ne sais quoi.” I would not be shocked if I lost a pound or two playing through this reimagined psychotic fever dream. But through all of the sweat and fear, I honestly had fun playing this game. The perfect use of puzzles, fear, and story to keep the player fearfully trudging forward is genius. Will I play Resident Evil Village, maybe but honestly I need a break and some happy video games like Rain On Your Parade.
