We’ve recently discussed why gamers need a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica. If Capcom did actually give us that remake what titles in the Resident Evil lore are we left with to update? They faithfully remade the original game albeit just over two decades ago. We have seen Resident Evil 2, 3, and now 4 is getting remade and is very close to launching. The other main titles are 5,6 and Resident Evil 0. The fifth and sixth games are relatively newer and may not be good matches for remakes yet. Let’s look at some of the games in the franchise sales as of February 2022.

The top two sales leaders are Resident Evil 7 and the remake of the 2nd game. They sit at 11.6 and 11.2 million copies sold. Then we have Resident Evil 5 and 6 both at 8.6 million respectively. Sitting a little lower down is Resident Evil 0. It’s sold more than Resident Evil 3. It’s also a Eurogamer recommended game that fans should plan at some point. Just like Code Veronica and the whole franchise in general, there’s some love for it. Here’s a look at gameplay screens to show off how the game looks.

Is There A Case For Resident Evil 0 remake?

Personally, I say yes of course. There are people who love the iconic horror franchise and want to experience all it has to offer. Compared to the Resident Evil remake which launched also in 2002 and even Resident Evil 2 and 3 it offered a new system. Something we hadn’t seen in previous games at the time. We had two playable characters who you could switch between and also no inventory box. You need to store a gun. You have to drop it and if needed back track for it. Let’s take a look at the game running and the general feel of gameplay.

It plays very similar to the Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil 4 and is visually closer to the remake of the original and for me looks a little better. Both the original and this were remastered for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. All footage here is captured on PlayStation 5 running backward compatibility but they run fairly identically on both systems. Tweaking the controls for the DualSense was easy for me but it may not be for you. It just depends on how you feel about the presets. The game plays really well still over twenty years later however a remake could really make this shine and could even implement a co-op aspect.
