Last summer Limited Run Games announced some of their upcoming physical releases. One title on the list caught the eye of quite a few gamers. Especially since it had no major announcement before that point. The game in question: République: Anniversary Edition and it’s coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, and the Nintendo Switch.

Fast forward to March 2022, the announcement came from Camouflaj. This came via the PlayStation blog and even released a trailer. This was République: Anniversary Edition. We also got a release date on the 10th of March. So that means it’s just over a week away from release.

For Those Who Recognise The Game

The post on the PlayStation blog by Matt Walker may answer this. He is the studio’s Director of Publishing who had this to say:

“République started out in 2011 as a true passion project of Ryan Payton’s – veteran of Metal Gear Solid and Halo fame – who felt that the democratization of game development was leading to a place where you didn’t need hundreds of developers working around the clock to produce AAA game content. After one of the first notable Kickstarter campaigns ever in 2012, the team released République Episode 1 on mobile in 2013.”

What République: Anniversary Edition Is All About

The studio originally released this to smartphones around 10 years ago. Now it will make a debut on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation VR next week. The development team is made up of people from the industry including some who worked on Metal Gear Solid. Therefore it’s no surprise this is a stealth game at heart. The game’s main character is not one you control but one you guide.

République is a thrilling and topical stealth-adventure game that explores the perils of government surveillance in the Internet Age. Players receive a call from Hope, a woman trapped inside a mysterious totalitarian state, and must hack into the nation’s elaborate surveillance network to guide her to freedom.

Will this be on your radar? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this news. And if you do pick it up please share your thoughts on the game!
