The Red Dead Redemption franchise has been making headlines again recently. Fans were hopeful for new content or an upgraded version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for modern consoles like PlayStation 5. However, the latest news suggests the massive open-world Western epic may instead be going portable.

According to a new rating discovered by sources on Twitter, it appears a Nintendo Switch version of Red Dead Redemption 2 could be in the works. The rating originated from Brazil’s classification board, indicating a potential Switch port.

This is surprising, given the technical demands of Red Dead Redemption 2. The Switch’s hardware limitations make a direct port unlikely. The game would probably need to utilize cloud streaming technology. However, with rumors of a Switch successor circulating, perhaps this mysterious Switch version is intended for new hardware instead.

Either way, nothing is confirmed yet from official sources like Nintendo or Rockstar Games. But a portable version of Arthur Morgan’s epic prequel adventure could be an exciting prospect for Switch owners. It would allow the cinematic story and expansive open world to be experienced on-the-go.

Fans have long been requesting more post-launch support for Red Dead Redemption 2. With no new single-player content and minimal updates to Red Dead Online, a Switch port would be welcomed. It could also potentially reach new audiences and boost interest before a possible Red Dead Redemption 3 down the road.

For now, the alleged Switch port remains a rumor. But if true, it could mark an important milestone for one of gaming’s most immersive worlds. Red Dead Redemption 2 on a handheld system would certainly be an impressive technical achievement by Rockstar
