We all know about the main upcoming plans from Rockstar. GTA 6 is finally confirmed and it seems in development and has been for some time. So that follows on from the huge-selling GTA 5 which is in its third console generation. However, Rockstar has another big-hitting franchise in their stables. That is the western franchise of Red Dead Redemption. I recently revisited the original which launched back in 2010. The game is playable on modern hardware thanks to the Xbox backward compatibility feature. It was also later optimized to take advantage of the Xbox One X hardware. The sequel launched in 2018, with a story set before the events of the original game.
There have rumors Rockstar is still thinking of remaking or remastering the original game. It was on the cards and then plans were shelved. So, if you need a reminder it was due to the state of the recently remastered GTA trilogy. Rockstar did upgrade GTA 5 specifically to take advantage of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S hardware. Sadly this hasn’t led to the developer revisiting the American West and upgrading Red Dead Redemption 2.
Why Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Back In The News
It seems the game is still being improved or added to by Rockstar. This is interesting as they have seemed to have given up on the online. However, a user on Reddit posted something interesting. The game received a 2.89 GB update out of the blue. It may not seem much but for a game that’s seemingly forgotten about when you read through some of the game’s fan communities, it’s a nice surprise. It seems to be related to the PC version. I own the Xbox version and at the time of writing not seen any updates for some time. Here is a link to the patch notes showing what has been updated.
