Earlier this week peripheral giant and gamer lifestyle brand Razer announced their first ever ultra-compact form factor keyboard as a variant of the very popular Huntsman product line. The new Razer Huntsman Mini 60% optical gaming keyboard looks to fill a gap in their product offerings, and give the company a solid entry into the market of small form factor keyboards.
Big Gaming, Small Packages
Demand for smaller, more compact keyboards has risen dramatically over the past few years. The smaller form factor became desirable as it lends itself well to carrying/travel, and fits well in the often limited amount of desk space provided at competitive events. This naturally lead to gamers across the globe, especially those on the professional level who travel to compete in events frequently, demanding a keyboard that offers a smaller size without sacrificing on performance.
The Razer Huntsman Mini seeks to do just that, and offers some new improvements on key technologies that have helped make Razer one of the top brands in the world. At 60% of the size of a standard keyboard, the Huntsman Mini manages to avoid sacrificing functionality from its lack of keys through use of multi-functional keys, and some additional tools made available through its software suite. Several of the keys feature secondary functions, printed onto the side of the keycaps, and the Razer Hypershift utility within their Razer Synapse 3 software allows for even more customization by enabling the setup of macros to any desired key.
Eye for Innovation
Razer also boasts that their new Huntsman Mini features a wide range of community-driven improvements aimed at making this keyboard one of the top contenders in the market. Perhaps the most interesting of these innovations comes in the form of their new and improved Razer Linear Optical Switch. Perhaps the most critical component of any keyboard, Razer are quite proud of the upgrades they have made to the linear switches first debuted in their Huntsman Tournament Edition not even a full year ago. Utilizing their own research and consumer feedback, Razer state that their newly refined linear switches offer silicon sound dampeners that noticeably reduce noise levels without sacrificing any of the speed or smoothness gamers demand from their keyboards.
The Huntsman Mini will also feature doubleshot PBT keycaps, which are known for their impressive durability and their resistance to the wear/shine that results from exposure to human skin oils over the life of the keyboard. Naturally, no product targeted at gamers these days could possibly enter the market without featuring RGB lighting. So the Razer Huntsman Mini will of course feature full utilization of Razer Chroma RGB lighting effects, with over 150 custom game-integrations made available through Razer Synapse 3.
