Quake II, the classic first-person shooter from id Software, is getting a remastered release soon. According to a reliable leaker, the Quake II remaster will be announced on August 10 or 11, 2023.

The remastered Quake II is expected to launch on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. So fans on all major platforms will be able to enjoy the upgraded visuals and gameplay of this classic 90s FPS.

The release date leak comes from billbil-kun, a leaker with a proven track record of accurately revealing PlayStation Plus games and other gaming news ahead of official announcements. Billbil-kun claims the Quake II remaster’s ESRB rating will go public on August 11, hinting at an announcement around August 10-11.

While details on the remaster are scarce, a 2021 Quake ray tracing demo gives us an idea of how Quake II could look with modern graphical upgrades. The demo included ray traced lighting, shadows, and reflections that dramatically improved the atmosphere and immersion.

Fans are hoping the Quake II remaster will include similar visual enhancements alongside gameplay improvements. The original Quake II was released in 1997 and was known for its fast-paced shooter action and sci-fi setting.

The remaster will allow a new generation of gamers to experience this classic FPS while giving veteran fans a dose of nostalgia. The expanded platform release is also great news for Nintendo Switch owners who will finally get to play Quake II portably.

We’ll have to wait for the official announcement to know exactly what the Quake II remaster has in store. But based on the leak, the release date could be just around the corner. Quake fans should get ready to return to the arenas of the future.
