Apparently, PlayStation Poland might have just leaked something called PlayStation Plus Video Pass. Spotted by VGC, this now removed description offers some insight into this new benefit.
The description reads as follows:
“A new benefit available for a limited time on PlayStation Plus […] PS Plus Video Pass is a trial service active 22.04.21 – 22.04.22 [sic]. The subscription benefit is available to PS Plus users.”
What Could PlayStation Plus Video Pass Entail?
Aside from this, we unfortunately don’t have much more to go off of. However, this does show Sony is actively looking for ways to expand their subscription service, PlayStation Plus. Included into the service, players receive ‘free’ games each month as well as discounts on the latest releases. So, perhaps this new benefit will see monthly Sony movies coming into the service for free. For example, the February PS Plus lineup saw Concrete Genie, Control Ultimate Edition and Destruction Allstars. Could we possibly see a similar lineup bolstered by the addition of a Jumanji? Bad Boys for Life? Maybe Venom and of course, their crown jewel, Spider-Man?
There certainly seems like there’s a ton of flexibility with how they can approach this. Then, you begin to mention Sony’s anime efforts with Funimation, Crunchyroll, Anineplex, you can easily envision they’re on to something. Regardless, it appears we won’t have to wait to long for an announcement.
The benefit is a limited one, only available from April 22nd, 2021 to April 22nd, 2022. An interesting choice, but perhaps this is a move to gauge interest. So, they aren’t commenting 100% necessarily, just testing the waters it seems. If the date is to be believed, then we can expect an announcement of some kind coming tomorrow.
