Based on the US Official Sony PlayStation 4 Pro listing and a Japanese retailer, Sony is seemingly about to start discontinuing the PlayStation 4.

Posted on Twitter by Cheesemeister, one retailer has informed customers they won’t be getting any stock for several consoles thanks to the manufacturer ending production. The affected models are as follows:

PS4 500GB Glacier White

PS4 1TB Jet Black

PS4 1TB Glacier White

PS4 2TB Jet Black

PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White

One point to note is Sony has yet to announce any such move in regards to ceasing production or any other retailers posting any warning to state similar.

The official Sony PlayStation Direct store last month did briefly state the PlayStation 4 Pro was no longer available for purchase and has since replaced with the following:

LIMITED QUANTITIES AVAILABLE, while supplies last. Item replacement option not available.

This doesn’t come as a surprise when I’m November 2019, whilst speaking to gamesindustry.biz, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan had the following to say about the future of PlayStation.

These are gamers who are networked and sticky and engaged and passionate about PlayStation to an extent that we’ve not seen in previous generations. As we move towards the next-generation in 2020, one of our tasks — probably our main task — is to take that community and transition it from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, and at a scale and pace that we’ve never delivered on before.
