Avid readers and those who love the survival game genre may remember a game called Pacific Drive. At the time of writing, it’s a PlayStation console exclusive for PlayStation 5. The game is PC-bound as well and at launch be available via Steam or the Epic Store. For those just coming across this game for the first time, we can bring you swiftly up to speed on what this game is about. As yes it’s a survival game, with a slightly different approach.
Ironwood Studios is the team responsible for Pacific Drive. What we’ll have is a survival game with a difference. Take a look at their official description we find this “is a run-based, first-person driving survival game. Your car is your only companion as you navigate a surreal and anomaly-filled reimagining of the Pacific Northwest”.
Structured as a “road-lite”, each excursion into the wilderness brings unique and strange challenges, as you restore and upgrade your car from an abandoned garage that acts as your home base.
With the car as your lifeline, you’ll unravel a long-forgotten mystery as you make your way to the heart of the Olympic Exclusion Zone.
What Pacific Drive is all about
So instead of repairing and upgrading your base as we would see in games like The Forest, this game requires that work be done on your trusty car.
An Update For Pacific Drive
So the game was set to come out at some point this year. Though at its reveal no release date was given. Now that the 2023 window has changed. Ironwood Studios is now aiming for early next year. Gematsu has a statement regarding the delay.
We’ve been hard at work bringing this idea to life for quite some time, and every day adds even more to a game we’re all proud of,” the developer said in a message. “In this final stretch however, it’s important to us that we stay true to ourselves, and not compromise on the team’s well being.
As summer comes to a close, we’d like to share that Pacific Drive is moving its release to early 2024.
This decision gives us the room to make Pacific Drive the best it can be, while still prioritizing the health of our team.
As many know, we’ve been hard at work bringing this idea to life for quite some time, and every day adds even more to a game we’re all proud of. In this final stretch however, it’s important to us that we stay true to ourselves, and not compromise on the team’s well being.
As our community grows, the support and excitement everyone has shown has been incredible and we can’t wait for everyone to take their own set of wheels out into The Zone. Everyone here at Ironwood truly appreciates your patience and understanding.
