One studio you may be familiar with is Obsidian. They are probably most known for giving what some describe as the best Fallout game, Fallout New Vegas which was recently discussed by Tim Cain. He is the creator, producer, lead programmer, and one of the main designers for the original Fallout as well as New Vegas. He felt a graphical remaster of the game would be awesome. As we also know both Obsidian and Bethesda are part of the Microsoft family.
Obsidian also gave us Grounded and The Outer Worlds. The Outer Worlds Spacer’s Choice edition which is the next-gen upgrade has had a rough launch. That has just been given another update to try and improve the poor performance. The studio is also working on Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 so you could be forgiven for thinking that they have enough on their hands.
Could Obsidian Have More On The Cards
Thanks to a job listing that was spotted by Idle Sloth and posted on Twitter it seems they do. They have advertised for an “experienced Unity Programmer” to join their “team of talented RPG developers”. So why is this news? Could it not be for say Outer Worlds 2? Well, it seems both this and Avowed are being developed in Unreal Engine 5. This listing is for Unity so unless the games have shifted the game engine it could mean a new project. However, if it is a new project why not stick with Unreal Engine 5? The last two games they used Unity for were Pentiment and Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. Personally, I’m hoping it’s a revisit of Fallout New Vegas. However, that’s likely to be wishful thinking. Though hope never hurt anyone. Maybe we’ll find out more at the Xbox and Bethesda showcase this Summer.
