You may or may not be aware, but the long-awaited remake of System Shock is due later this year. I recently played the Next Fest demo as well as the demo released before see how a game I remember fondly was shaping up. Those thoughts can be found here. If you pre-order the game on Steam or Epic you can also grab a nice pre-order bonus. Both store listings state that if you pre-order the game you will receive System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition for free. That sells me the pre-order, I loved the sequel even more. However, Nightdive Studios haven’t said much about the sequel in terms of changes. That’s understandable as they are focusing on the remake.
That’s not the only thing going on with Nightdive Studios as well. The System Shock remake is being published by Prime Matter which Engadget tells us more about. They have an article stating that it involved Koch Media. So they ran Deep Silver and in turn owned by Embracer Group. They also formed Prime Matter. With news, today will these publishing rights remain with System Shock or change? The reason for this is the developers behind System Shock have been bought.
Who Bought Nightdive Studios?
According to Eurogamer, Atari is the company responsible. It seems from a statement both Atari and the developers have a long-standing positive relationship. From the same article, we find out the price of the deal and how it’s being paid. Atari has said the studio purchase is $10 million, Half of this is cash and the other half in Atari shares. This deal is expeced to be closed and completed sometime in April. Hopefully, this does not affect the System Shock releases.
