Broken Arrow, one of my most anticipated games in forever, finally got a release date during Slitherine Next. Announced in the showcase and in a Steam Post, Broken Arrow arrives in June 2025.
If you’ve ever played Ubisoft’s classic RTS title World in Conflict, you’ll love Broken Arrow. World in Conflict is one of my all-time favorite games, and it’s a shame that it’s nearly impossible to play on modern PCs. Combining elements of World in Conflict, WARNO, and Wargame, Broken Arrow aims to deliver a fun and tactical RTS experience that’s more accessible than hardcore RTS simulations. In the developer interview linked above, the team emphasizes that Broken Arrow is not about hyper-realistic gameplay—it’s about having fun!
I first experienced Broken Arrow during a Next Fest event in 2023, and it was a solid 10/10 for me. As a fan of military and pseudo-realistic RTS games, Broken Arrow ticks all the right boxes. It strikes a perfect balance: approachable but not too simple, challenging but not overwhelming, and deep but not excessively complex. For example, players can choose how much they want to micromanage. You can have units clear buildings one by one, selecting specific weapons for each situation, or you can take a more hands-off, macromanagement approach, commanding units like in a classic RTS. Similar to the Wargame series, you’ll need to manage fuel and ammo, but Broken Arrow makes it less punishing. Setting up supply lines is straightforward and surprisingly satisfying.
The game features over 300 units, each rendered with painstaking detail. Players can customize these units, organize them into formations, or simply admire their impressive designs. At launch, Broken Arrow will include a single-player campaign, multiplayer modes, and a scenario editor, offering a more complete package than other games usually offer on launch.
