It’s a very busy day for those connected with Activision this includes The Activision/Microsoft buyout being approved by stockholders. The press release from Activision Blizzard confirms. Also “more than 98% of the shares voted at the Special Meeting were voted in favor of the proposed transaction with Microsoft”. The other news is regarding Modern Warfare 2.
Modern Warfare 2 was confirmed back in February. Developer Infinity Ward has given us some news, albeit it is very brief. So what we have now is the official logo for the popular branch of the Call of Duty franchise. We knew it was a sequel to their 2019 reboot of Modern Warfare, but now the title is official.
Call Of Duty. Where It Stands Now
Modern Warfare 2 will launch later this year. However, it won’t be a shock to see a launch close to October or November. The current release is Vanguard which hasn’t been the biggest success. So, Activision returning to this branch for the franchise may help restore some faith with fans.
Xbox fans though may find today’s news worth following. As if the acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through, will it be before the launch of this? Chances are it may not but if it does, we would see Modern Warfare 2 launching on day 1 in Game Pass. However, the reality could be we are far from this buyout being approved. Meaning the 2024 release could be the first new Call of Duty hitting Game Pass at launch.
