Today, the official Minecraft Twitter announced that their VR mobile game; Minecraft Earth would receive a final update and close in June 2021. The Minecraft website informs players that the game will close on June 30th and what’s in the final update. It came with changes to the currency and allowing players to get a copy of Minecraft.
With the final update, there are changes to the currency and the goal is for the final update that players can stay safe while indoors. As well the game was made to be played outdoors, during Covid-19 the game’s functions were limited. The team decided that due to the global situation that they should reallocate their resources to the other Minecraft games.
The update has included the following:
- Removing real-money transactions
- Drastically reducing ruby costs
- Including all completed, unreleased content currently in our pipeline
- Reducing time requirements for crafting and smelting
- Replacing unused crafting & smelting boosts with radius boosts of the same level
- Granting a set of Character Creator items to players who sign in between January 5 and June 30
The team behind Minecraft Earth released a FAQ for players to inform them of what will happen from today until July 1st. While Minecraft Earth is closing on June 30th, all the data will be deleted the next day. Players who made any in-game purchases will receive a free copy of Minecraft (Bedrock Edition) for their mobile devices. Depending on how much players spent in Minecraft Earth, they can receive Minecoins (a currency in the bedrock addition) for the Marketplace and the Character Creator.
