It is without a doubt that the Power Rangers were a defining series for an entire generation. I, Myself, was obsessed with the martial arts using superheroes. They instilled a deep love for me and helped to establish my love of the Sentai genre. Learning about other series like Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Guyver, and more. However, as a 90’s child, MMPR was a staple for kids, and will know that many casts have changed. And the new upcoming special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Once and Always will answer a few major questions about certain rangers.

So for those unaware of the original line-up of Rangers we had, Jason Scott, Zack Taylor, Trini Kwan, Billy Cranston, and Kimberly Hart. Later joined by a sixth member with Tommy Oliver. However, due to some issues, several characters left and were written out of the show was Jason, Zack, and Trini. They were later replaced with new rangers in the second and third seasons Rocky, Adam, and Aisha. Now many of those actors were returning to reprise their roles, The original Blue Ranger, Billy left after the third season before the start of the Zeo Series. Adam replaced Zack as the Black Ranger, Rocky replaced Jason as Red, and Aisha replaced Trini as Yellow.

The Loss of a Ranger:

Now the original actor for Trini Kwan, Thuy Trang, unfortunately, passed away several years later due to a car accident. So with the return of Walter Emanuel Jones, as Zack, and David Yost as the original Blue Ranger. They had Steve Cardenas, as Rocky DeSantos, and the second Pink Ranger Katherine Hillard, played by Catherine Sutherland. So who was left to play the Yellow, well Karan Ashley will be in the special as well. However, she was not the yellow we see in the trailer. Instead, we see that the yellow ranger of Trini is killed by the return of Rita Repulsa.

Her daughter wants to get revenge for the death of her mother. This decision is both a creative one and a respectful one. It allows the team to pay homage to their fellow ranger who was taken so young, while still allowing her to be a part of the show, and get an actual send-off. I personally think this helps to add weight to her loss.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Once and Always special will be airing on April 19th Netflix. Will you be watching the special? Are you a power rangers fan, I know I am, and cannot wait for this nostalgia trip.
