Microsoft Activision Deal – The Next Twist

Activision Blizzard

It seems like a lifetime ago that we covered the news regarding the Microsoft and Activision deal. That was when Microsoft agreed to pay $70 billion to purchase Activision Blizzard. Fast forward to present day, and it’s a highly controversial deal that doesn’t seem to be amicable between Microsoft and Sony. As for the Microsoft Activision buyout, the questions are simple. What is going on, will it happen, and if the Microsoft Activision deal happens, when?

Towards the end of last month, Games Industry.biz reported about the deal at the time. Microsoft had, at the time submitted a subpoena to Sony. This was as they were preparing for the FTC trial. Sony asked for a week’s extension in response. The article stated this “appears to centre around Sony’s production capabilities, which presumably ties in to Microsoft’s defence against the FTC.”.

The Microsoft Activision Deal As It Stands

Pure Xbox have referred an article from Axios. To summarize, things aren’t looking good. They said that if you quote Sony then they feel “Microsoft is apparently committing “obvious harassment” with its requests for internal information. The article quotes statements from both sides. Reading through it, does appear to be messy.

This disagreement could rumble on for some time. If I were asked if am I confident the deal will finally go ahead? I’d have to say no. Although I would not be surprised if this purchase was blocked, the opposite is also true. If a compromise were to be made to allow the deal to go ahead, I would understand. As always, your thoughts on this news are very much welcomed.
