February is a hefty month for titles with Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West still to launch. However, this isn’t the only game to arrive. Developer LKA has followed up their psychological horror The Town of Light with another horror. This is the physiological thriller set in WW2 called Martha Is Dead.
So for those wondering what the premise is about, the Steam listing has the following for the game launching on 24th February.
Martha Is Dead is a dark first-person psychological thriller, set in 1944 Italy, that blurs the lines between reality, superstition and the tragedy of war.
As conflict intensifies between German and Allied forces, the desecrated body of a woman is found drowned… Martha!
Martha is dead, and her twin sister Giulia, the young daughter of a German soldier, must alone deal with the acute trauma of loss and the fallout from her murder. The hunt for the truth is shrouded by mysterious folklore and the extreme horror of war that draws ever closer.
But there’s more
It’s available to preorder on the PlayStation store in the form of a digital deluxe edition with the bundle including The Town of Light. Priced at $29.99/£24.99. No listing is available on the Xbox store and it’s only available on Steam to add to your wishlist. However, for those wanting to purchase on PlayStation consoles, publisher Wired Productions announced some bad news.
For PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, Martha Is Dead will be censored. So this censorship won’t be affecting Xbox consoles or PC gamers. Not an ideal scenario when we are just under a fortnight from launch. And the fact changes are now needed for release on Sony’s systems causes issues for LKA.
How it affects release
With digital releases, only PlayStation has it up for preorder. However, in the store, it may not be available to fully preload just yet. But we also don’t expect a file size to rival the recent preload of Horizon Forbidden West. This was shown to be just over 98GB on PlayStation 5. Physical copies this looks like the production process has been affected as the release date has been affected. This is the official statement from Wired Productions.
It is with regret that we have had to modify the experience on the PS5 and PS4 versions, with some elements no longer playable. After over four years of passion and hard work, Developer LKA now requires extra time to make these unplanned changes. Martha Is Dead, as a result, will still launch digitally on both PS5 and PS4 on Thursday, February 24th, 2022, but the physical retail release will be delayed to a yet to be disclosed date; although we anticipate this to only be a small number of weeks
An interesting state of events when you look at the content on Mortal Kombat or The Last of Us Part 2. As to what the edits are, we have no official announcement other than they are needed. However what do you think about this news? Were you after this announcement deciding on getting on PC or Xbox if possible.
