LucasArts was one of the most cutting-edge developers in the 1990s, pushing technology to its limits and using the PC as a major platform to create some of the most memorable games of all time. This also included first-person shooters, both original IPs like the cowboy western Outlaws and those based on their franchises like Star Wars with the Dark Forces first-person shooters. LucasArts was pushing first-person shooter technology, even beating id software to having a DOOM-like engine with the ability to actually create rooms and floors above others.
Nightdive Studios, the top remaster studio in the industry, remastered Dark Forces in 2024, and with Outlaws using the same engine as Dark Forces, it was the perfect fit for the studio to remaster next, with them porting the Dark Forces engine to their own KEX engine and their blooming relationship with LucasArts.

This remaster will give players a chance to revisit this 1997 classic, entering the Wild West as gunslinger ex-Marshal, James Anderson. Uncover a twisted plot of greed and corruption with your trusty six-shooting .45 Revolver, along with a scoped .44 Rifle, 10-Gauge Shotgun, a sawed-off 12-Gauge Shotgun, dynamite, and even more firepower you can pack to take out all manners of outlaws.
The game utilizes amazingly animated cut-scenes which Lucasarts was well known for, whether they were fully acted video scenes like a movie, animated, CG or anything else they wanted to try during this time where technology was moving so rapidly from year to year, where one game could come along and make everything else look dated in a day, and that was happening annually multiple times.

This remaster is coming out to every platform you can think of, including PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Switch, and many more. The extra expansions and levels released for the game back in the late 90s will also be included. Like all of Nightdive’s amazing work, the game will include high-resolution, uncompressed cutscenes and updated visuals for weapons, characters, and enemies, all fully recreated from archived art and stylized to match the original look with full color palettes. The most powerful platforms will also be able to push the game to full 4K at 120fps, there will also be full gamepad support and gyro aiming for platforms that have controllers that support the feature. There will also be 26 achievements and a ton of behind-the-scenes content like their other remasters, which will reveal tons of new development documents showing the behind-the-scenes development of the game. The original game also had multiplayer, and it is here too, with Cross-Play Multiplayer with game modes including Deathmatch, Team Play, Capture the Flag, and Kill The Fool With The Chicken!
The remaster releases on November 20th, 2025.
