Gamescom 2022 has treated us to another look at the highly anticipated, Pinocchio-themed bloodborne-like adventure, Lies of P.
A combination of the Pinocchio story with the gameplay and approach of a souls game, specifically Bloodborne. Lies of P is set in a dark-bell Epoque world, where Pinocchio is on a journey to become human. Featuring gameplay that will be familiar to those that have played one of 2022’s most notable titles, Elden Ring. Its gameplay and general UI are reminiscent of a FromSoftware title while providing its twist to the genre.
Set out on a journey where you are seeking Mr. Geppetto as you explore the city of Krat to solve its mysteries on your quest to become human. All while the story pays tribute to the creator of Pinocchio himself, Carlo Collodi.
Lies of P had an even further demonstration thanks to IGN and a hands-on preview they conducted. Here you can witness more of the core gameplay.
The soulslike signature combat features things like dodge-rolling, cruel environments, a variety of weapons, and getting punished by enemies often. Sentient puppet-like contraptions are what stand in the way of Pinocchio’s ultimate goal of becoming human. We’ve had a variety of soulslike inspired games in the last decade, often to a disappointing result. Lies of P has shown, for now, that it has the potential to stand out as one of the more creatively-inspired while providing engaging gameplay, and an interesting enough story.
Lies of P will come to PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X in 2023, and it will be a Game Pass day one title.
The story description reads as follows:
You wake up at an abandoned train station in Krat, a city overwhelmed by madness and bloodlust. In front of you lies a single note that reads. Find Mr. Geppetto. He’s here in the city. Play as Pinocchio, a puppet mechanoid, and fight through everything in your path to find this mystery person. But don’t expect any help along the way and don’t make the mistake of trusting anyone. You must always lie to others if you hope to become human.
