Gamers with a love of football or soccer have an interesting array of titles heading our way. We will soon see Mario Strikers Battle League coming to the Nintendo Switch. This will join Konami with its troubled eFootball and the EA smash hit franchise FIFA. We also have yet to see the arrival of UFL or anything about how the game looks or plays. What nobody predicted was a Lego football.
This news came via Video Games Chronicle, Lego football will be a thing and it’s in development now. The team behind it is Sumo Digital the creators of Hood: outlaws & Legends and Crackdown 3. It’s the first release in a series of Lego sports titles in a new partnership between Lego and 2K.
What do we know about Lego football?
Other than the studio involved we only have a brief release window. In the VGC article, they state that Sumo Digital is targeting a launch that will coincide with the 2022 Fifa World Cup. Normally that be a summer release, but with the host nation being Qatar it’s this November and December. This is a one-off due to the extreme summer temperatures in the country.
One person with knowledge of 2K’s plans suggested that the Lego sports games could include guest characters from some of the toy brand’s popular cross-over licenses, such as Marvel, Harry Potter, and DC. So what do you think about this news? It’s an unexpected move for Lego games and sports games. It will be interesting to see what else is in the pipeline. One is said to be an open-world racer.
