Every so often I come across a game completely by accident for example this happened for games like Stray Souls. Though, this one, Lazaret I found when looking for something else and it was a suggested video. However, for those unaware of the game which may be a few let’s look at what it’s about. Well, this is a psychological horror title similar to what we see in Layers of Fear with some puzzle elements. The full game is set to launch sometime this year according to Steam and for now, we have a demo to experience.

So, we know the game genre but what exactly is Lazaret about? If you’ve seen the film Ghost Ship you’ll be on the right track. The Steam introduction tells us the game is an “atmospheric first-person horror game. You play as a member of a rescue team called out to investigate a distress signal coming from a ship that disappeared 4 years ago”. The full game description states the following
A rescue team is called out to investigate a distress signal coming from a ship identified as the MTS Endurance – a ship known to have disappeared 4 years ago on a voyage across the Atlantic. The rescue operation goes awry, and you are left stranded and alone on the derelict ship. Searching below deck you find no sign of life. The crew appears to have just vanished; replaced with eerie stone statues, but perhaps you’re not as alone as you first thought. Explore the derelict ship to uncover what happened 4 years ago and what fate befell the crew.
Lazaret is a first-person horror game with light puzzle elements and an emphasis on atmosphere. You play as a lone member of a rescue crew who must complete puzzles and explore the derelict ship while trying to avoid meeting the same fate as the missing crew. Danger lurks around every corner – you must run or hide to stay alive as you learn more about the ship and what caused its mysterious disappearance 4 years ago.

Is Lazaret Shaping Up To Be Worth Your Time
British developer Aegon Games are the team behind this. Their previous game was also a horror called The Door in the Basement. Though it may not mean much, it’s reassuring it was well received. So let’s have a look at the demo and see what was offered.
Visually the game looks really good with quality textures and impressive lighting as well. Especially when the nature of the environment won’t offer the chance to have a bold and striking map. From playing the demo it felt smooth and works just as well with the mousepad and keyboard as it does with the controller. The sound quality is excellent and really offers a creepy and foreboding atmosphere. When putting everything together it’s a promising demo and will deserve to be well received at launch. For me, it’s definitely a game to look out for. Hopefully, we get some release news soon and find out what platforms it’s coming to.
