For nearly 50 years, the Star Wars franchise has had an undeniable cultural impact, garnering a massive fanbase along the way. One beloved Star Wars game celebrating its 20th anniversary this year is Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). This RPG is regarded by many as one of the best of all time.
In 2020, fans were excited to learn Aspyr Studios would be remaking KOTOR. However, reports emerged in 2021 that the remake had been delayed indefinitely. Around that time, Aspyr fired the game’s art director and design director, putting the project in jeopardy. For over two years now, fans have wondered about the status of the remake.
The Latest on the Knights Of The Old Republic Remake
Recently, news has surfaced about peculiar actions by Sony regarding the KOTOR remake. Sony made the announcement trailer private and removed all social media posts about the game. The original blog post announcing the game still exists.
According to Kotaku, Sony explained they “delist assets with licensed music when the licenses expire.” The only music in the trailer was the original KOTOR theme, which apparently took three years to become a rights issue. While this would affect posts with the trailer, it’s unclear why all posts were removed.
Fans remain hopeful the remake will continue as planned. For now, it’s a waiting game to see what unfolds for one of Star Wars’ most legendary games.
