They say many people always come and go in any industry. This is an absolute within the gaming industry. And amidst rumors that Yakuza creator and former CCO, Toshihiro Nagoshi is leaving for NetEase. It seems that a SEGA vet is returning. Having been an artist on Jet Set Radio Future and the original director for the first two Yakuza games, Ryuta Ueda returns to SEGA.
The announcement of his return actually comes from his Facebook account. In a statement, he made a post stating that he is leaving Yahoo and returning to SEGA; which you can read below:
His statement:
“Greetings this time, I retired from Yahoo Co Ltd. and went back to sega in the old man. Thank you very much to all of you who met a lot of people through various projects on yahoo; and got a lot of learning thank you very much. I will devote myself to making games again in the future. It’s not just the excitement of making things; but it’s kind of grinning when I think I’m going to meet nostalgic people, and I’m going to meet the first people. I would like to show you what I have raised from experience.”
So it’s good to see veteran talent returning to the studio. And since he has worked as a director on the Yakuza series it is possible he could helm it in Nagoshi’s potential departure. More than anything it would be nice to return to the Jet Set Radio series. A unique embracement of rebellious and graffiti culture wrapped up in a neon-colored hip-hop-filled trip. Either way, it is nice to see that Ryuta Ueda returning to SEGA.
