Next week we have the lesser published event known as QuakeCon. QuakeCon 2021 will be hosted by id Software and Machine Games. It’s also a celebration as this year marks the 25th anniversary of an iconic game franchise. Quake debuted all the way back in the summer of 1996. And it followed on as some thought of at the time as a kind of successor to Doom.
So why is this big news?
The two studios talking Quake isn’t anything on its own. However when you looked at the Let’s talk Quake event the original description which has been since replaced caught the eye. But Xbox Era managed to capture this news.
What’s the news?
This chat which will be hosted by Digital Foundry, start with a simple yet exciting description. What it said was “Quake is back”. Not only that but a reveal of a “revitalized edition” of what appears to be the original release and additional content from Machine Games.
So are they remaking Quake?
Not much information is available but rumours have been circulating. If we look back a couple of months an industry inside said a new release was coming for the original Quake. Shpeshal Nick also added Machine Games are involved.
Then on an Australian rating site, an id Software game popped up called Project 2021B featuring online elements and containing violence. Which would fit a rumour of Quake being remade.
Any other evidence?
Machine Games for Quake’s 20th anniversary released a free expansion for the game. This was a whole new fifth episode. So they have worked on Quake before and we haven’t heard them working on a new Wolfenstein so could they be focusing on a Quake remake.
If this Quake Revitalised is indeed a remake the next question is when is it coming. Though we don’t even know if this is indeed the project being worked on let alone when it’s coming. However, let’s assume the rumour is true we can maybe get a rough clue
And what would that be?
We have seen this before where a title by id ended up on the Australian Classification site. That was a game listed as Project 2021A, which is a similar title to this leak, which was revealed to be Doom 3: VR Edition. Which launched 3 months on from that leak. Which could mean Bethesda drop a Quake bombshell next week. Also, we do not indicate the platforms it would launch on. So could the arena shooter games such as Quake 3 Arena be making a comeback? And with Bethesda part of the Xbox family, it’s expected a new Quake will launch in Game Pass but would it be denied a launch on PlayStation?
