Is 2024 A Good Year For Games? A Look Back In Time

We are in that final quarter of the year, and within a few weeks the Game Awards for 2024 will be here. It doesn’t seem too long ago I was thinking of my game of the year contenders for last year. Though between that at now we still have some games to experience. Though we have had a few games launch this year or seen expansions to flesh the game out. With some games still to come, why not look back and remind ourselves of some of the more notable titles to launch?

Also the we still have some games still to come. For example we have the remaster of The Thing still due this year. At long last STALKER 2 is set to arrive. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Slitterhead and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are some of the rest of games to come in 2024.

A Reminder Of What We Saw In 2024

To prepare for a game of the year it may help to refresh our minds to some of the games we’ve experienced this year. So at the time of writing the biggest recent release is naturally Call of Duty Black Ops 6. Elden Ring saw the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, which adds so much more to an incredibly impressive game. We had a couple of horror remakes, one being Until Dawn and Bloober Teams excellent take on a classic in Silent Hill 2.

A couple of sequels hit this year with Dragons Dogma 2 and Helldivers 2. Team Ninja gave us Rise of the Ronin and we saw Astro Bot land on PlayStation 5. Other notable names included Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Black Myth Wukong which can also be pre-ordered physically. Looking back over this years releases I saw a few titles I had forgotten as well. Before too long we will talk more about our game of the year contenders.
