Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days Introduces Survivor Infection and New Threats in Latest Update

PikPok has released the second major Early Access update for Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days, expanding the survival mechanics of the shelter-based zombie game with new systems, difficulty options, and undead threats. The update is available now for all players on Steam, adding more layers of danger to the already tense streets of Walton, Texas.

Set in a grim, alternate 1980s America, Our Darkest Days tasks players with leading a group of survivors through a city overrun by the undead. With the addition of Update #2, players will face greater risks, new tactical decisions, and a heightened sense of vulnerability.

Survivor Infection System Adds Tough New Choices

A key addition in the update is the Survivor Infection System, which introduces the possibility of infection during encounters with zombies. If left untreated, infected survivors risk turning into zombies themselves—forcing players to make difficult calls about whether to isolate or exile members of their group.

This mechanic increases the stakes during scavenging missions and adds emotional weight to the already intense resource management and shelter dynamics.

More Zombie Variants and a New Survivor

The update also introduces new zombie types that exhibit unpredictable behavior patterns, challenging players to adapt their strategies as they navigate through Walton. These new variants break up the routine and demand more careful planning when engaging or evading threats.

Players can also now recruit Vince, a new survivor with a troubled past and a rebellious edge. Vince comes from a wealthy Texas family and adds a unique personality to the group’s evolving social dynamic.

Difficulty Settings and Localization Updates

In response to community feedback, Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days now includes difficulty settings, allowing players to choose from Casual, Normal, or Hard modes—or create a custom experience by modifying individual gameplay parameters. This offers more accessibility for new players and greater challenge for veterans looking for higher stakes.

Additionally, the update includes Thai language support, expanding the game’s accessibility to a wider audience.

Early Access Roadmap Continues

Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days remains in active development under Early Access, with a retail price of $24.99 USD on Steam. This latest update continues to build on the game’s systems and world, deepening both its mechanical and narrative aspects as it evolves with player input.
