It is without a doubt a tough time going for Xbox and Microsoft right now. Amidst their announcement of record layoffs affecting more than 10,000 employees, with the gaming division also being affected. Among those, Halo studio 343 was hit the hardest. Many speculate that HALO will no longer be the studio’s project, however, that is not the case. As Pierre Hintze states in an open statement that Halo is here to stay.
The statement comes from a simple tweet from the Halo Twitter account with a short and sweet message from Pierre.
There were many people affected from the team, not just contractors or junior team members, but senior staff as well. Pierre taking over is a sign of good faith. While Joesph Staten had returned to help the studio; he has now since moved to help on the Xbox Publishing side of things.
Pierre Hintze for those who don’t know was the man who took over the Master Chief Collection. He is credited as having saved that game from its early launch state. Taking it from what was seen as a broken mess, to the hailed ultimate collection it is today.
With him helping to steer 343 and saying that HALO will continue to stay at 343. While things are hard economically for the studio and Xbox, it is good to know that Halo is here to stay with the team.
