It’s been a while since we heard the original announcement from Rockstar about GTA V coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.  Now that release after a delay is not far away after being pushed back from it’s original November release date.  So, for this new GTA V enhanced release thanks to Rockstar we can bring you more comprehensive information about what is coming.

Rockstar is set to launch the new GTA V enhanced edition on the 15th of March. Therefore, we are just over a week from launch.  Sadly, the only information we are missing is the price point and the upgrade options, assuming any are going to be available. They do state the following, however.

These new versions of GTAV and GTA Online introduce high-end PC visuals to the console experience with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second, improved texture quality, HDR options, and ray tracing — as well as utilizing the technical advancements of the latest console hardware for faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, support for platform-specific features, and more.

THE NEW GRAPHICAL MODES IN THE NEW GTA V ENHANCED VERSION

It seems we get a choice of three modes so let’s look at what we are expected to see.

Fidelity Mode

This is the mode that offers the best visual quality and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this means a native 4K resolution and ray tracing.   For the Xbox Series S, it will be an upscaled 4K resolution. However, the downside is the game is targeting a 30 FPS

Performance Mode

This mode targets a 60 FPS experience. Consequently, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be supporting an upscaled 4K resolution.  However, for those on the Xbox Series S, it will be offering a resolution of 1080p.

Performance RT

This is for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X only.  This mode is a hybrid of the Fidelity and Performance modes seen above.  It will offer an upscaled 4K resolution whilst offering ray tracing and a target of 60 FPS.

The question though is, whilst playing what do we physically see differently.  Naturally, with the new SSD storage, we see faster load times.  Along with this, we see an increase in the population and variety of traffic on the roads.  Rockstar also says we will get “increased vegetation density, improved lighting quality across shadows, water reflections, and other elements. Plus improved anti-aliasing, motion-blur, highly detailed new explosions, fire, and much more”.

If you pick this up on the PlayStation 5 you will discover the new DualSense is supported.  This is described as “new levels of responsiveness with Haptic Feedback and dynamic resistance via the Adaptive Triggers on PlayStation 5’s DualSense wireless controller, adding new sensations to weather effects, directional damage, rough road surfaces, explosions and much more.”  PlayStation 5 will offer “immersive audio using Tempest 3D positional audio” and for the Xbox Series X/S you can expect Spatial Sound support.

CHARACTER TRANSFER FOR THE NEW GTA V ENHANCED RELEASE

PlayStation 4 players can transfer both the progress in the story mode and GTA Online characters and progression over to PlayStation 5 and the same goes for those moving from Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S.  You can also move across console platforms but this is only available once.  Any purchased GTA cash can’t be transferred cross-platform, however.

You can start the transfer of your story from today.  All you need to do is upload you’re save from within the game to the Rockstar Games Social Club. So, to begin this launch your copy of the game Rockstar says “go to the Game tab of the Pause Menu. From there, select the Upload Save Game option. Please note, you can only store one game save per platform at a time, and saves will remain available to download for 90 days.”

THE RELEASE INFORMATION

Rockstar has given a brief overview of the release, but as we say no price as yet.  Both GTA V and GTA Online launch digitally only on the 15th of March.  However, a physical release is due in April with more information coming soon.
