Illfonic may or may not be a developer that’s immediately familiar. They are not the oldest studio around after being founded in 2007 and their first game coming in 2012. They are most known for the movie tie ins like Friday 13th and Predator Hunting Grounds. Friday 13th we know is know is no longer being supported and at the time, we also heard rumours of them jumping into the Ghostbusters franchise.
Ghostbusters is an iconic franchise with four films and the most recent being released last year. In the Ghostbusters game universe the biggest success was the self titled release back in 2009 and remastered for its tenth anniversary. When the rumours about Illfonic making a game in the franchise appeared, one question was asked. Would it be a similar style of game?
The Ghostbusters Rumour. Did They Come True?
They were indeed accurate and Illfonic have finally revealed the game. Without further ado, let’s introduce Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.
This game looks like it let’s you play with friends as one of four Ghostbusters or as a ghost. From the trailer it seems that includes Peter Venkmans old friend, Slimer. Thankfully the Ghostbusters have the usual equipment from Proton Packs to Ghost Traps.
Fans will instantly recognise a couple of NPCs voiced by Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. This means that adds Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore to the game. Ernie Hudson also let slip it was in the works last year. Unfortunately we have no release date as yet but it’s coming to the following systems with cross play.
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series X/S
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- PC (via the Epic Games Store)
Will you be tempted to jump in when it launches or are you thinking of staying clear? Either way we’d love hearing from you on this news.
