Nearly a year ago IllFonic’s horror Friday 13th received its last update. This lead to the dedicated servers being turned off. This is the same developer that created Predator Hunting Grounds which was free last September as long as you were subscribed to PlayStation Plus. Now it seems the movie tie-in games will continue from this team, this time with Ghostbusters.
Blast From The Past
Ghostbusters is a franchise that hasn’t had many successful games. The most notable is Ghostbusters the Video Game from 2009. This was later remastered in 2019. We also have the sequel to the original two films by Jason Reitman in Ghostbusters Afterlife out this November.
The source of this leak came from an interview in a recent podcast called Questlove Supreme. The interview was with singer-songwriter and producer Raphael Saadiq.
He co-founded IllFonic alongside another Grammy-winning producer in Charles Brungardt. This was back in 2007 with the Friday 13th game being their big break. And according to PCGamesN he said after talking about Friday 13th and Predator, Hunting Grounds that they’re “working on Ghostbusters right now”. Also according to PCGamesN the time stamp is 59 mins 24 seconds. So when a co-founder of a studio says they have Ghostbusters as their next project, there is a fairly high chance of being true.
Both Friday 13th and Predator Hunting Grounds were multiplayer. So even though we only know this is being worked on, it’s a safe bet to assume the style of the game. Which would probably be a third-person co-op game and maybe for four people as the original team was a team of four.
What are your thoughts on this news? Were you a fan of their previous games or were they not for you? As always we’d love to hear your thoughts on all of this.
