While we got a remaster back during the Xbox One era with the Ultimate edition. Gears of War: Reloaded is taking that a step beyond what was originally done. Gears on PlayStation??
However, the biggest shock with the announcement is not that it is coming this summer, but that the game will launch on PS5 alongside the Xbox Series X|S versions. This is huge as it is now the second major tent pole franchise to go to PlayStation, after Forza, from Xbox Studios. This differs from games such as DOOM: The Dark Ages, Indiana Jones, and others. While some feel this was coming at some point, the surprise still stands.
All in all this does bring many players returning to the series’ roots and origins, while introducing an entirely brand new ecosystem, to what is arguably one of, if not the greatest, cover shooters of all time. One of the games that left a mark on competitive gaming in the early years of esports.
Gears of War: Reloaded will be releasing on August 26th on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, and PS5.
