Gaming conventions and shows have recently suffered. Naturally, the global pandemic has had a significant impact on events such as E3 and Gamescom. However, for Gamescom 2022, they have proudly announced that in addition to Opening Night Live, there will be an in-person event. With E3 missing from this year’s lineup in-person and online hopefully, this will make up for it.

Gamescom 2022 will take place at the Koelnmesse Convention Centre in Cologne and run from 24th to 28th August. This is what the official website states.

The unique festival feeling of gamescom is back: The world’s largest event for computer and video games and Europe’s leading business platform for the games industry will once again take place in the Cologne exhibition halls from August 24 to 28. A tried and tested hygiene and security concept will ensure your safety and a high quality of stay. The on-site experience will be combined with an extensive digital program.

We look forward to seeing you in Cologne and online in August!

Some Big Names Are Not Attending Gamescom 2022

Nintendo has decided they aren’t going to participate this year. VGC reported a statement to Games Wirtschaft which states.

Gamescom is a key event in Nintendo’s calendar of events. This year, however, after careful consideration, we have decided against participating in Cologne.

Instead, players will be able to try out the games for Nintendo Switch at numerous events throughout Germany.

Events that have been firmly scheduled so far include roadshows with our Airstreamer [tour bus] and our [VW] Bulli, for example at locations such as the SWR Summer Festival and the Stuttgart Children and Youth Festival.

For Japan and video game fans, we have decided to participate in the Main Matsuri Japan Festival in Frankfurt as well as the DoKomi in Düsseldorf and the AnimagiC in Mannheim. Further tour stops and activities are being planned.

So it appears that Nintendo will not be present at Gamescom this year. Reading that statement, it seems that they are shifting their focus to a smaller scale. What are your thoughts on this news? As always, please connect with us and share your thoughts.
