Fractured Veil is the Perfect Getaway!

Looking for the vacation of your dreams? Do you want to get away from it all and relax on the beautiful beaches of Hawaii? Well, you’re in luck because Fractured Veil is the perfect getaway; filled with interesting locals and tourists just like yourself I promise this will be an unforgettable experience. You can thank me later, that is if you survive.

The Inspiration

I had the pleasure of speaking with Ryan Wiancko Co-Founder of Paddle Creek Games and the Project Director of Fractured Veil, where he took the time to explain his vision for the game he was creating. Fractured Veil is an open-world survival game. This title focuses on mechanics that push players to craft, organize, survive and thrive in a world that is filled with mutants with a taste for human flesh. The first thing we wanted to know is what inspired Ryan to become a game developer and what made him decide to create a survival game.

I have been a passionate gamer for as long as I can remember, for me, everything changed when I first played those gold box games. With their living, breathing, open world they set into motion my dream to create vast places to explore and mysteries to discover. In fact, after all these years I still have those original games to remind me where this journey began.”

Ryan Wiancko

Ryan went on to explain that games like Rust and DayZ were huge inspirations when it came to creating Fractured Veil, however after spending hundreds of hours in these games he still felt unsatisfied. In the early stages of conception, he crossed paths with others who felt the same way, and together they have worked to craft an amazing yet challenging world.

The Game

Fractured Veil presents players with a massive open world that allows for in-depth player progression that deeply impacts their experience. The year is 2122 and the island has definitely seen better days but the amount of detail put into the environment is stunning. The world is still full of lush fauna and sandy beaches with a few mutilated corpses here and there but honestly, if you don’t have that is it really a survival game?

You will be faced with mutants of various types and you are all fighting to survive in this post-apocalyptic world. When playing a game like Fractured Veil it’s best you don’t get too close to the locals and you keep your gun locked and loaded. All jokes aside the amount of work put into the environment must have taken a lot of research. Ryan and his team made sure to work closely with Hawaiian groups to ensure they captured the spirit of Hawaii. It’s truly incredible when a developer goes the extra mile to do the research in order to give their players the best possible experience. The world will also include dungeons ranging from small shelters to Diablo-inspired spaces that extend deep into the earth.

One of the most interesting elements in this world is that once you kill there are consequences that affect other players in the area. For example, leaving a dead body out in the open will attract more attention than you may think. Mutants will discover the body and if they consume parts of it they will receive buffs making them more difficult to defeat later in the game. This mechanic adds a touch of realism that hasn’t been seen in this type of game before so remember to clean up after yourself it’s not worth ruining your vacation over.

The Future

Ryan and his team strive to keep open communication with their community. They want to give players the ability to openly speak about things they would like to see in the game moving forward. I believe that the relationship Paddle Creek Games wants to encourage is a step in the right direction. It allows us to feel connected because we are being heard.

“Fractured Veil has always been a community-driven project and we’ve taken it as far as we can go on our own. Where we go next is up to you, so join us and let’s build the survival game we’ve all been dreaming of.”

If you enjoy survival games I urge you to check out Fractured Veil and be a part of its creation. The amount of work and detail that has gone into it is incredible. Ryan and his team really want to give the players an experience they’ll truly enjoy. I personally think you’ll love it, just remember to bring your sunscreen and a few extra cases of ammo.

I’d like to thank Ryan for taking the time to talk with me over at the Burnout Brighter Podcast. The team at Paddle Creek Games will be launching a Kickstarter on September 7th. You can catch all the latest news about it and their goals by checking out their website.
