It has been many a year since Team Cherry announced Silksong. As the follow-up to the viral hit Hollow Knight, there was a crazy amount of hype surrounding just the announcement back in 2019. Now, 6 years later, Team Cherry has finally broken the news that, after many teaser trailers since its announcement, the game will finally be launching on September 4th.
Years of Silksong Polish and Content Creation Finally Arriving
On Thursday, Team Cherry announced that the game will finally be launching for the millions of fans of Hollow Knight to enjoy. But why has there been years of showing the game and promising to deliver within a given year, but not delivering upon that promise? Well, as a huge relief to their fanbase, nothing has been going on with the development of Silksong. According to a report from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg. He reported the following from the Co-Founder of Team Cherry, Ari Gibson:
“It was never stuck or anything,” Gibson said. “It was always progressing. It’s just the case that we’re a small team, and games take a lot of time. There wasn’t any big controversial moment behind it.”
Jason then went on to report that the game has been in the finalization phase for about two years. This is otherwise known as the “polishing phase”, where every bit of content is finished with a game. All that remains in this phase is ironing out the finer details and bug fixing before release. Hence, why its release date is 2 weeks out from its announcement. As opposed to a few months or another year, like most titles.

One detail, however, is still shrouded in mystery. That is the price for Silksong. As Hollow Knight was priced at $14.99 (which is a steal for the content and quality), it could be priced similarly or higher. But that will have to wait until people can preorder or buy it on its release day.
