PAX West 2025 just wrapped up, and during the convention, Square Enix showed off their new opening cinematic for Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles. The new cinematic gives us a look at Ramza and Delita’s lives before they embark on their epic journey, accompanied by a soundtrack that instantly brings the world of Ivalice to life.
The new cinematic was revealed during the “Making of Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles” panel during PAX West this past weekend. The panel included Game Director Kazutoyo Maehiro and Art Director Hiroshi Minagawa. Voice Actor Ben Starr hosted the panel, which provided insight into the original games’ development and how the team is modernizing Final Fantasy Tactics by refining the graphics, updating the script, and incorporating full voice acting. Kazutoyo and Hiroshi both expressed their gratitude to the fan base for their support since the release of the original game in 1997. Final Fantasy Tactics. SQUARE ENIX released a new blog feature titled “Next-Gen Visionaries Part 1: The FINAL FANTASY TACTICS Co-Director Shaping the Ivalice Chronicles,” which consists of an in-depth interview with Yokoyama, one of the new faces joining the development team. The blog feature goes over Yokoyama’s journey as a game developer and her approach to reimagining the classic game. Part 2 of the series releases September 3 at 8 AM Pacific time.
Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalic Chronicles will have both an enhanced and classic version of the game, allowing players of the original and new players to experience the game like it was originally developed for that nostalgic feel, or with the enhanced bells and whistles. Players can get their hands on one of the greatest Final Fantasy stories on September 30th, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via STEAM.
