We told you about Frontier Developments’ Odyssey expansion for their space game Elite Dangerous back in 2020. It was supposed to be published in early 2021, but it wasn’t until May of that year that it was made available for PC. It was also due for a console release, with the Elite Dangerous console version arriving on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Because of the poor quality at launch, the console versions have since been delayed. The expansion cost £29.99/$40, and it appears that it was not worth the price. As a result, when the expansion arrived on Steam, it was in a bad state. However, it was the poor quality that resulted in a Mostly Negative Steam rating. It was riddled with bugs and plagued by performance issues and server outages. As a result, after spending money on this expansion, gamers voted accordingly. Frontier’s response was to postpone the console release of the Odyssey expansion indefinitely. They stated on their official forums that they “have made the decision to prioritize the core PC experience for Elite Dangerous.”

So with the PC release receiving nearly a dozen major updates to fix Odyssey, console players were hoping for good news. But we have sad news, as it’s anything but. It was confirmed that console players would see no future content. It’s the news they are no longer supporting the console with content going forwards which is a blow for the many dedicated fans on console. They will still provide critical updates for PlayStation and Xbox however. Whatever platform of choice, what do you think about this news? Please get in touch as we’d love your thoughts.
