Dying Light is a household name for zombie game lovers. Seeing as it went viral in the gaming space as one of the absolute best zombie games not only in recent years, but possibly of all time (if you do not count Left 4 Dead, of course). The first game received many years of meaningful content updates and DLCs, which won Techland, the developers of the game, a lot of good will with the game’s community. Afterwards, they released the second game to major fanfare, and have been doing well since its launch in 2022. Now, Techland is setting its eyes on a newer, bloodier entry with Dying Light: The Beast.
Dying Light: The Beast is set to launch next month, on September 18th. Ahead of that, Techland released a new and thrilling trailer of gory gameplay with some details on how the dismemberment came to be.
How Dying Light: The Beast is Upping Its Gore Game
The “Blood & Guts” trailer was filled with lots of dismemberment, and even some vehicular gameplay for fun. Showing just how far Techland is willing to go for that gory goodness.
Kyle Crane at this point could be mistaken for Doom Guy from the recent Doom games with how glorious the kills in that trailer looked. Tymon Smektala, the Franchise Director, had this to say about the philosophy behind it:
“We’ve dramatically increased the body horror to give you this feeling of fighting for pure survival and Kyle’s hunger for revenge.”
With the game’s Director, Nathan Lemaire, speaking on the technology behind-the-scenes:
“We’ve overhauled the body damage system. We doubled the number of places on enemies – we call them Gore-Nodes – where players can inflict damage and the number of wounds or injuries that are visible on one single enemy. And we improved the precision of melee attacks – so the angle and trajectory of your strike defines what you hit and how your enemies react to it. So you can target and cut off limbs more precisely than ever!”

The proof is in the crimson pudding, so to speak. Dying Light: The Beast is looking like a high octane zombie killer that will help the series reach new heights. If you would like more details on the game from a first-hand perspective. Please visit our gameplay impressions here!
