The idea of having a mouse that heats and cools was odd but grew on me, and let’s talk about my time with Black Shark’s latest wireless gaming mouse. Black Shark, founded in 2017 and known for being an industry leader in the gaming phone space, sent us the Funcooler Wireless Gaming Mouse to check out. The Funcooler Wireless Gaming Mouse distinguishes itself by seamlessly heating and cooling with a simple flick of a switch. Those high-intensity moments in a game where you feel the palm sweat building up activate the cooling system. Packaging

So I am a complete nerd for the way a product is packaged. One major reason is I like to feel as if my money is well spent, and the way a product is packed plays into that. The box was sealed with a thin plastic; the box itself has a smooth glossy finish that displays the Funcooler mouse. Once you open the box, you see a black styrofoam rectangle working as a lid. After that is removed, you are greeted by a wireless mouse nestled in a pocket of more black Styrofoam. The Funcooler was neatly packed in a way that almost guarantees it will survive rough shipping and handling. Below you will see what was included inside the box alongside the Funcooler mouse.

What is in the box?

  • Funcooler Mouse
  • USB-C Cord
  • Black Shark Funcooler Mouse Docking Station and USB Dongle

Hot and Cold to the Touch

It is not simply a gimmick; Black Shark has truly made a wireless gaming mouse that can change its temperature. According to Black Shark’s description, the TEMPX technology allows for the Funcooler to heat up to 20°C and cool down to 10.3°C. I did not measure the temperatures myself, but I did utilize both TEMPX features; it, in fact, gets warm and cold. What shocked me the most about the TEMPX system was how quietly and quickly it activates. Seriously, within seconds, you can feel the temperature dramatically change in the mouse. One thing I want to make clear is that the TEMPX heating and cooling can be turned off. There are three settings under the mouse. The button is called “S2”; it features a snowflake design for cooling, an “off” setting, and a sun for heating.

Now the TEMPX system is located on the palm portion of the mouse, and both temperature settings were at comfortable temperatures. These features were built with long gaming sessions in mind.

Battery Life While Using TEMPX

While using the TEMPX heating/cooling technology, the battery was the last thing I had to worry about. I did not take down the exact times of the sessions while wirelessly using the TEMPX heater, but I can say that I got more than 30 minutes of constant use. Also do not worry about overheating because it will automatically go into a rest mode where the mouse cools down slightly, then begins to heat up again. If you are worried about the battery life, especially if you are deep into a critical online gaming moment that would be ruined by a mouse dying, simply connect the mouse to the USB-C.

Overall Thoughts

For the price of $149.99, I believe this mouse will be perfect for a PC gamer who is a heavy user, spending 4+ hours a day in front of their setup. This is definitely a luxury product that you didn’t know you needed. Forgetting to dock the Funcooler mouse after a long gaming session will not lead to having to charge it. The adjustable DPI (dots per inch) will allow each user to find the perfect speed for their gaming needs. Black Shark did a solid job designing the Funcooler mouse because for all that it houses, it is far from bulky and will blend well with various aesthetics. Having been using this mouse for over a month, it has become my day-to-day mouse. It functions well for my non-gaming needs, such as browsing the internet, working on documents, and managing spreadsheets. Because of the cold weather and poor insulation of my office, the TEMPX heating has been on religiously, and it is difficult to imagine going back to a mouse without the technology. If you are in the market for a wireless gaming mouse that will enhance your comfort while gaming, I highly recommend the Black Shark Funcooler Wireless Gaming Mouse.

Yes, this product was sent to me at no cost to review, but after more than a month of using it, the Funcooler is still the only gaming mouse I use.
