It may seem an eternity ago but we have some new information on the integration of Discord to Sony hardware. Just under two years ago when talks broke down about a Microsoft purchase we told you about the PlayStation partnership with discord. Since then, the service is available on Xbox hardware and from personal experience works pretty well. In fact multi-player gaming with friends we’ve used Discord more than the Xbox Party Chat option. As for PlayStation, it seems only PlayStation 5 is going to be getting the service. At present only beta users can access the chat service on the console.
Jim Ryan announced the partnership and soon after you could link your profile to the service. However. at the time of writing it should now be available to access the console to beta users. This news came from an official announcement from Discord over the release of their service onto PlayStation 5 hardware. Some may say it’s about time as it’s been the go-to for users on PC and mobile for some time. However, with the service now available on Xbox, PlayStation gamers have been left behind.
The Update For Discord On PlayStation 5
The announcement states that “for almost eight years, Discord has been the go-to place for gamers on PC, mobile, and console to talk together while playing their favorite games”. Console integration is a fairly new addition. So when you’re able to access the service we’re told that “you’ll be able to use Discord voice chat with your friends on desktop, web, console, or mobile using your PS5″
The official announcement also provided instructions on how to link to the service on your PlayStation 5 console. So are you waiting for this service to hit your PlayStation? As always we’d love to hear from you.
