Disco Elysium was a popular RPG release in 2019 by ZA/UM. It received a console release as The Final Cut version in 2021. So what brings this “groundbreaking” RPG back into the fold? It’s not because Disco Elysium is heavily reduced on the Steam Spring sale which ends on the 23rd March. The developers have finally added a photo mode to the game. Photo mode is working its way to becoming an industry standard. For an example of its importance, I used that mode to compare the Ray Tracing on Control Ultimate Edition.

Why The Photo Mode On Disco Elysium Is A Talking Point

The mode is called Collage Mode and it works differently from other games’ photo modes. Engadget described what we get, the new Collage Mode “grants players full access to all the characters, environments and props found within the RPG”. So we can create a screenshot of a specific part of the game and tailor it to what we want it to look like. A photo mode that allows full access to characters and more is unique. Imagine being able to edit the environments, and effects to set the mood.

Kaspar Tamsalu who is the Art Director at ZA/UM Studio says.

Collage Mode is an incredible tool that puts the characters, environments, and visual effects from Disco Elysium into the hands of all the players to create original art. It also allows you to examine our brush strokes up close and lets you pose and twirl the character models as if they were toys in the palm of your hand. You can really see up close how the artists came together to create the game’s distinctive look, which extends to brand new art we made specifically for this mode.”

The lead on the new Collage Mode is Chris Priestman who adds.

This latest update offers a completely new way to explore the world of Disco Elysium as it’s simultaneously a doll house, a blank canvas, and a storytelling machine. We made this for our hugely talented fans as we’ve spent years admiring everything they create, from luscious paintings to memorable short stories and amazing cosplay — now we hope there will be much more! We only ask that they please go easy on Kim Kitsuragi, he can only take so much love.

We also have a trailer for the new mode below.
