We reported on a rumor of a possible remake of Dino Crisis. After reading an article in The Escapist, I began to contemplate not just the necessity of a remake, but why it deserves one. The franchise belongs to Capcom, who have previously delivered a game featuring dinosaurs, but that is a completely different intellectual property. Capcom has already produced several remakes in another survival horror franchise, Resident Evil, with another one scheduled for release in a few weeks. We are all eagerly anticipating the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake.
The survival horror genre continues to be popular, as evidenced by several upcoming and recently released games, some of which are brand new, such as Greyhill Incident, and others that are remakes, including Silent Hill 2, Layers of Fear, and Alone in the Dark. Additionally, there is a remaster in the Fatal Frame/Project Zero series called Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, and titles inspired by Resident Evil, like Echoes of the Living, are on the horizon, with Tormented Souls having recently been released. Given the popularity of the genre, there is even more reason for Capcom to revive Dino Crisis.
Would A Dino Crisis Remake Work?
The survival horror genre is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, as demonstrated by the success of recent releases such as Resident Evil 8 and the remake of Resident Evil 2. The demand for this type of game has been evident since the original Resident Evil and Dino Crisis games, which sold over 2.75 million and 2.4 million copies, respectively, on the PlayStation console.
As fans continue to express their enthusiasm for the survival horror genre on social media, many are wondering if Capcom will choose to remake Dino Crisis. While the decision ultimately rests with the company, there are numerous reasons why a Dino Crisis remake could be a hit with fans.
Given the success of recent survival horror titles and the ongoing popularity of dinosaurs in popular culture, a remake of Dino Crisis could potentially appeal to both longtime fans of the franchise and newcomers alike. With advancements in technology, a remake could also provide an opportunity to update the gameplay mechanics and graphics for a modern audience. Overall, it seems that the demand for a Dino Crisis remake is certainly there, and many fans would love to see Capcom revisit this beloved franchise. As for this writer, I am definitely voting yes for a Dino Crisis remake.
