Gamescom is happening, and I’m starting to do my catch-up of the Opening Night Live 2025. On the pre-show, a trailer for Denshattack! immediately caught my attention. Hi-Fi Rush rocked, and the aesthetics reminded me of that game, plus a sprinkle of Jet Set Radio and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. I also love games that are off-kilter or have interesting concepts. I suppose a game where you’re driving a train through a Japanese dystopia, battling weird bosses, and grinding on a giant Ferris Wheel qualifies.
The Story
In the not-too-distant future, a massive climate disaster strikes. Over in Japan, the rich built a bunch of air-purifying domes and left everyone else to fend for themselves. The famous Japanese rail system was abandoned in favor of the VACTRAIN, created by a corporation named Miraido. This ultimately controls much of everyone’s life. Meanwhile, suburban gangs have formed and battle for recognition via illegal train competitions called Denshattack!
Denshattack! Features
- Sick Trick System: Combo rail grinds, wallrides, air flips, chasm jumps, boat rides and dodges at speeds you can’t even fathom!
- Travel in Japan: Always wanted to visit Japan but couldn’t quite work out where to go? Let’s take you on a mind-racing journey through levels inspired by many of Japan’s iconic locations AND regions – from the southern lands of Kyushu to the cold north of Hokkaido!
- Skaters with an edge: From back-alley train yards to neon-lit rooftops, you’ll experience a crew of Japan’s own underground icons, each with their own moves and stories. You’ll encounter powerful rivals, keen to put your skills to the ultimate test. After seeing what you are capable of, some of them may even decide it is better to join your cause as allies.
- Banger soundtrack: Slick beats from lead composer Tee Lopes (Sonic Mania, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge). Landing that trick combo has never felt so good with a head-bopping soundtrack to make your adventure extra memorable.
