The long-rumored Death Stranding Director’s Cut has been announced for PS5. The announcement comes to us by way of a short teaser during Sumer Game Fest’s kickoff Livestream.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut Finally Confirmed
As far as the trailer itself…well we didn’t get anything too concrete. We do see Sam infiltrating a new area, resembling the first stage of Metal Gear Solid. Yes, even the iconic hiding box returns, oranges and all. Except, instead of using the box to sneak around, Sam merely hops inside. Although devoid of any action, the trailer has the trademark Kojima humor we come to expect by now. Overall, it’s a good laugh.
We can assume the PS5 version will have enhancements to both performance and fidelity. As well as, Dualsense support and new story content. However, just how meaningful or substantial has yet to be seen. Will this follow in the footsteps of Persona 4 Golden or Persona 5 Royal? Meaty expansions to the base game added new characters, new areas to explore, changes to gameplay mechanics, and major story additions. For now, we will have to wait and see where, specifically, new content would land. Would this be an epilogue of sorts? Would this add further context to a chapter that felt rushed?
Knowing Kojima, it’s probably something that hasn’t even crossed my mind and for that, I can’t wait to see it. Seemingly, the full announcement is only weeks away. So, we won’t have to wait too long to get a grasp on how meaty this Death Stranding Director’s Cut will be.
