As a huge fan of Turn-based RPGs and a new fan of Warhammer 40,000, Rogue Trader seemed to have been developed just for me. Developed and published by Owlcat Games and with a recent rating of “Very Positive” on Steam, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader has just released its second DLC that will introduce a champion of the Lex Imperialis. Solomorne Anthar and his cyber-mastiff Glaito are more than your average tax collectors. As members of the Adeptus Arbites, they are galactic tax collectors who ensure the war efforts are forever funded through force.
The Imperium is vast, and Solomorne Anthar’s dedication to it will not waver at any point. His foundation in the Lex is solid enough to build a house on, and his trusty hound follows him in the same fashion. Once combat begins and you position your units, Glaito will always be within a few squares of Solomorne. The cool thing about using Solomorne is that you get a two-for-one unit. His partner in upholding Lex is not the only familiar that is available in the latest DLC. While a metal-jawed cybernetic Cujo is epic, you can also utilize three other cybernetic familiars: a Psyber-Raven, a Servoskull Swarm, and finally, the majestic Cyber Eagle.
As a newbie to 40K turn-based games, I have frequently faced defeat from heretics. I had to hone in on the fact that this game is set in a grimdark universe, and that means a few things can not be avoided. Friendly fire may be needed to bring glory to the Emperor, specialization is crucial for success, and shields don’t entirely replace effective cover. While still working through the game and DLC, I have to point out the amount of care that Owlcat Games put into this title. Rogue Trader goes beyond simply being a turn-based game with a Warhammer aesthetic. From the main menu screen to the smallest dialogue options, Rogue Trader oozes 40K.
