Is Halo Switching Engines? The Spawnies 2023, One For The Ages Horizon Forbidden West Multi-Player On The Way? Quantum Break Worth Playing Nearly A Decade Later? SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake Review

We told you about Square Enix’s thoughts on their Avengers game just over a year ago. The game was launched in September 2020 with an online aspect to run alongside the single-player campaign. It was alleged that Square Enix were critical of the game, its performance, and Crystal Dynamics. The question is why they weren’t they happy? After all even to this day the game still has a solid fanbase.

Yosuke Matsuda, the Square Enix president told shareholders that simply Crystal Dynamics were the wrong team to develop their Avengers title. They were also allegedly unhappy with the problems surrounding the game at launch. I had no personal problems with the campaign, but the online side was a complete nightmare a lot of the time in terms of joining up with friends.

What’s Next For Crystal Dynamics And The Avengers?

According to recent reports, Crystal Dynamics is discontinuing support for the title. This was announced via the game’s website, while the next update is scheduled for March 31st. This will be the last content the game is getting this is in addition to all support ending on September 30th, 2023. That’s not all, as the marketplace content will be free as well.

As a show of our appreciation for our community, starting March 31, 2023 we will make all the game’s Marketplace, Challenge Card, and Shipment cosmetic content available to all players for free. Every single Outfit, Takedown, Emote, and Nameplate from the Marketplace, Challenge Cards, and Shipments will be free for all players from this date onwards if you own a copy of the game.

It seems the title is coming to a sad end, three years after its launch. That is not an uncommon lifecycle in today’s gaming space but it is a bit sad. No doubt, fans will be left with the biggest what if questions. As always, we’d love to hear from you about this news. So why not get in touch and share your thoughts?
