Chase Bethea, Conducting Sunken Stones Live At MAGWest

Multi-award-winning composer and technical music designer Chase Bethea will be the special guest conductor at MAGWest. He will be conducting with the Virtual Video Game Orchestra, or VVGO, on Saturday, September 28th, 2024. Volunteer video game musicians comprise the VVGO ensemble, which established an accessible virtual community amidst the pandemic. Chase will be conducting an exclusive piece from the game he scored, Sunken Stones, developed by Spritewrench Studios.

Sunken Stones is a turn-based strategy pirate game where you battle through puzzles on a 5×5 grid. It currently has a demo available, where you can get a preview of Chase Bethea’s work that moved away from Western and European sounds. Chase Bethea has incorporated more historically accurate Caribbean music into the pirate game genre.

Chase was tasked with trying to bring back the sound of the Caribbean for Pirates instead of perpetuating the Western and European sound of what Pirates have been in Hollywood, specifically the Disney film franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. The strong thematic and historical association of where Pirates in the Caribbean originated has been lost until Chase took up the mantle to revive and incorporate the culture back into game music.

Sunken Stones Key Features

Choose Your Captain– Core of the team, each captain has unique abilities, starting health, and “savvy” the resources needed to deploy crewmates
Build Your Crew– Through rescuing and recruitment you will build up your pirate force. Each crewmate brings something special to the fight.
Master Elemental Combat– Each member of the team is aligned to one of three elements Steel, Smoke, or Salt. Each has its’ own mechanics and strategies.

MAGWest is a gaming enthusiast slice of heaven! From September 27-29, all weekend will be filled with all forms of gaming. Tabletops, LANs, and even arcades will be available. Additionally, for those attending the concert, there will be a meet and greet with Chase, who will also be selling exclusive merchandise.
