Capcom announced earlier in the year that three of its titles were to be upgraded which will allow them to take advantage of the Xbox Series X/S and the PlayStation 5. The games set to be released are the remake of the classic Resident Evil 2 which was well received and the other being Resident Evil 3. The final upgraded title was the introduction of Ethan Winters, the main character in the recent Resident Evil Village.

Slowly but surely Capcom is dropping information on the upgrades. Previously we were told they were coming and were free. We also know DLC such as on Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition were to be supported. That edition features all the DLC. The DLC is the Banned Footage Vol. 1 and 2, End of Zoe and ‘Not a Hero’. And now we see Capcom has updated the details surrounding these upgrades.

Resident Evil Upgraded. What Fans Will Get

We know the games will see visual enhancements. Now we have some information on what to expect. The official website now states:

These three masterpieces developed using the RE Engine are back with cutting–edge features including ray tracing, high frame rate and 3D audio for an enhanced gameplay experience.

Players who previously purchased Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 or Resident Evil 7 biohazard on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One are eligible for upgrades at no additional cost through the PS4 to digital PS5 upgrade option or Xbox Smart Delivery system. An upgrade patch will also be available for PC users at no additional cost.

Details on what the upgrades are offering

Naturally, the Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback are only on the PlayStation 5. Also “no new gameplay content will be added”

The Other Details On The Resident Evil Upgrades

The official Twitter account also states the same but it seems for those with a physical copy, you can only upgrade if your console has a disk drive. So if your copy is physical and you upgraded to the Series S or the digital-only PlayStation 5, you’ll need a digital copy to upgrade. They state this along with the news it’s at present digital-only.

Players who own the physical edition of RE2, 3, and/or 7 can upgrade at no additional cost via PS4 to PS5 digital upgrade or Xbox Smart Delivery. Please note that your console will need a disk drive to continue using the physical editions of these games.

Next-gen physical editions aren’t planned right now, but all three game will be available digitally on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. As noted above, PS4 and Xbox One discs, and all PS4 and Xbox One digital editions of the game, will also be eligible for an upgrade.
