It’s a big period for the Horizon franchise by Guerilla Games. We have an upcoming TV adaptation in the works by Netflix. Not only that we’ve had the PlayStation 5 VR 2 installment which is Call of the Mountain. For most of us, we have Horizon Forbidden West which follows Aloy’s journey in Zero Dawn. However, we know an expansion of Burning Shores is on the cards.
Burning Shores were announced in December with a 19th of April release date. Though since that reveal we’ve seen nothing. So with the launch, a month away is it still on the course is the question. We have had an update on the expansion from Mathijs de Jonge who is the game’s director. They have an interview published in the recent PlayStation Blog post and the expansion is still set for the 19th of April.
What We Know About Burning Shores
The expansion is set in LA and if you’re playing the game on. PlayStation 4 there’s bad news. The upcoming expansion will be available on PlayStation 5 only. They were asked how they took advantage of the PlayStation 5 for the upcoming expansion and this was the answer.
One of our key priorities with Horizon games is to add a ton of detail and richness to our environments. On Horizon Forbidden West, everything we added or increased was something we’d need to have a plan around how to optimize for PS4 as well. On Burning Shores, since we can just focus on PS5, we’ve been able to charge forward and we’re really excited about what we’ve been able to pull off in creating this stunning post-post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles.
It’s an expansion I’m very much looking forward to. The original game Zero Dawn also got an expansion Frozen Wilds which pushed the hardware even more so it’s no surprise they’ve decided to focus on the PlayStation 5. Though the PlayStation 5 upgrade comes free of charge if you upgrade later on.
